Lower School Visual Arts:

Students in K4-5th grade, as well as Discovery Program students, have elementary art class once a week. The art program focuses on Aiming (A) to do our best, Respecting (R) ourselves, our friends, and the art room, and Trusting (T) in your ability to learn! Student’s and the designs are God’s masterpiece, and we value each and every skill in the art room.
Each month, all grades focus on a famous artist and create artwork in that style. The hope is that all elementary students can unite and converse around the dinner table with knowledge gained from these artists. As the year progresses, they’ll learn how these famous artists inspire and intertwine their journeys!
Every student will be given an art journal that we will create in throughout the year! These journals will be on display at our annual art show in April. Art Portfolios will also be created, filled, and sent home by the end of April.
Student art is frequently on display in 68 frames throughout our LCS along with other bonus displays throughout the year. We also participate in Kids Tag Art for fifth graders in Polk County.
During the spring, the students are counting down to our annual art show on campus. Each child has a piece of art framed and on display. Families enjoy this evening at school with various art stations set up around the campus for parents and children to create and make together.
Upper School Visual Arts:

In the Upper School Visual Arts department, we understand that our creativity reflects the very nature of God—the Creator himself. Our desire is for students to recognize their status as image-bearers and to seek to exercise their imagination as an act of worship. Furthermore, we recognize that visual imagery is a form of communication. Therefore, we challenge students to develop their working knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design to express their ideas through a variety of art-making processes. Ultimately, we want to guide students in the pursuit of creation over consumption as they find their unique artistic voice.
Our department offers the following courses for students to explore the practice of art:
- Sixth Grade Wheel Art
- Seventh and Eighth Grade Middle School Art I and II
- High School Art—Art I, Art II, Art III Honors, AP 2-D Design, AP Drawing, and AP 3-D Design
- High School Ceramics—Ceramics I, Ceramics II, and Ceramics III Honors
Finally, art students at Lakeland Christian School will have several opportunities to present their artistic creations to the school family and local community. Student artwork is frequently displayed throughout the school. Students are also regularly invited to submit pieces to local, regional, and national shows.
